Reclaiming the Goddess Within

I share this blog with you because my experiences through peri-menopause have been frickin profound!  I have learned so much about myself as a woman like how I have denied my feminine characteristics and over express the more masculine qualities.  As a young girl I watched my mother take care of everything, my dad was not very involved in our lives.  Unconsciously I have expressed that need to do it all without even considering any other options.  The expression of doing it all is quite supported in our society especially for women.  But, here is what I have noticed, as you enter the period of your life of peri-menopause and even into menopause the un-serving or unresolved and unconscious habits we retain will reveal themselves. They will demand your attention.  I simply had to pay closer attention to how I spend or use my energy and time. My capacity to “do it all” was changing I was soooo ridiculously tired so much of time I had to incorporate downtime into my day. I was ashamed and embarrassed to speak this outloud so I would hide.   Through lots of meditation, yoga and journaling and help from others I slowly awoke to making changes.  As I started to become more in-sync with my natural rhythms it became evident to me that this shift or change in my life was inevitable.  Even if I wanted to turn around and be who I was in my 30’s and even 40’s I simply wasn’t that person anymore!

I have learned our bodies are impacted by our beliefs, by the culture which we live, and the behaviors that stem from these beliefs.  If you believe that a woman’s lot in life is to suffer and sacrifice, this will greatly influence your well-being.  However, you also have a choice to cherish your body, care for it well and you’ll feel a sense of spaciousness, freedom and a desire to flourish.  I have never believed we need to buy into the many myths of aging, especially the belief that “this is just what happens” when you experience peri-menopause or menopause.  Of course, our physical bodies age and change but how we perceive and react to that process changes everything.  If you desire to thrive during this time in your life, keep reading.

It is possible to thrive as females at all ages instead of simply waiting or expecting disease to happen.  Culturally we are seeing a shift in women collectively working together and speaking their truth.  Medically we cannot sustain health through prescription drugs, more disease screening and surgeries.  To create more sustainable and healthier human (female) experiences means claiming and practice listening to our innate wisdom, being truthful with ourselves and take conscious intent to take care of ourselves.

As I have journeyed through this time in my life I have developed more sensitivity – you notice I said developed – to un-serving patterns that I no longer can avoid.  Making a commitment to looking at all aspects of my life and truly accessing my power to change them has really deepened my self trust.  I have always been committed to a pretty healthy vegetarian diet and I continue to be active physically, however if I hadn’t made the decision to face some of my subconscious beliefs regarding my self worth I wouldn’t feel the freedom, growth and desire to be excited about what life will be like in the future.  I now feel enthusiasm, confidence, greater self acceptance and I feel an awakening to my divine nature.  I feel a progression toward more deeply embodying my soul so I can be the expression of a woman I wanted to hide from in the past.  But above all, I feel the courage the make radical and life-giving changes in my mind and body so I may flourish at all levels in my life.  Cherishing the temple that houses our soul is the path for our individual healing and the healing of our planet and humankind.  Scroll down if you are experiencing this thrust of change and you are overwhelmed or feel alone.  You are NOT alone.  Scroll down if you are ready for help and believe that there are other possibilities, peri-menopause or life change may not be easy BUT it can be empowering and exhilarating.
